Networks reveal early season college football slates, late season schedule shifts (2024)

On Thursday, CBS, ESPN, Fox, and NBC all revealed their early season college football schedules for the 2024 season, with some also revealing games later in the season.

We’ll start with CBS in the interest of alphabetical order.

Their slate begins with a doubleheader on Saturday, August 31, with Akron-Ohio State in the traditional 3:30 p.m. ET window, followed by UCLA-Hawaii in primetime. CBS continues with a 3:30 p.m. ET game each Saturday through November 30 and will have doubleheaders on September 14, October 5, November 2, and November 29 (Black Friday). The Black Friday doubleheader will see Minnesota take on Wisconsin at noon ET and San Jose State host Stanford at 4 p.m. ET. Last season, the CBS Black Friday doubleheader was Iowa-Nebraska at noon and Missouri-Arkansas at 4 p.m.

Additionally, CBS will air the Big Ten title game on December 7, Army-Navy on December 14, and the Sun Bowl on December 31.

Other announced games include Iowa State-Iowa on September 7, Notre Dame-Purdue and Colorado-Colorado State on September 14, and USC-Michigan on September 21. CBS has three primetime windows this season, including the Big Ten Championship on December 7. Those primetime games are the aforementioned UCLA-Hawaii and Colorado-Colorado State games. All games airing on CBS can be streamed on Paramount+.

The CBS Sports Network schedule is service academy heavy, with four Navy games and five apiece from Army and Air Force. From Weeks 2-5, CBSSN will air games exclusively on Saturdays before adding mid-week games nearly every week through the end of the regular season. Conferences featured include Conference USA, the MAC, and the Mountain West along with several UConn home games. CBS Sports Network also airs a Black Friday doubleheader, with a to-be-announced MAC game at noon ET and Liberty-Sam Houston at 3:30 p.m. ET. The schedule concludes with the Conference USA championship on Friday, December 6, at 8 p.m. ET.

ESPN’s schedule, as you’d expect, is vast. The schedule begins with four Week 0 games on Saturday, August 24, headlined by Florida State-Georgia Tech in Dublin, Ireland at noon ET on ESPN. The Week 1 ABC tripleheader is Clemson-Georgia (noon ET), Miami-Florida (3:30 p.m. ET), and Notre Dame-Texas A&M (7:30 p.m. ET), while the ESPN quadrupleheader is Virginia Tech-Vanderbilt (noon ET), Colorado State-Texas (3:30 p.m. ET), Western Kentucky-Alabama (7 p.m. ET), and New Mexico-Arizona (10:30 p.m. ET). ABC airs USC-LSU on Sunday, September 1 in primetime and ESPN airs Boston College-Florida State in primetime on Monday, September 2 (Labor Day).

In Week 2, the ABC tripleheader is Arkansas-Oklahoma State (noon ET), South Carolina-Kentucky (3:30 p.m. ET), and Tennessee-NC State (7:30 p.m. ET). Looking ahead to Week 3 on ABC, it’s LSU-South Carolina at noon, Texas A&M-Florida at 3:30 p.m. ET, and Georgia-Kentucky at 7:30 p.m. ET as Disney leans into its all-encompassing relationship with the SEC.

Later in the year, the Egg Bowl moves to Black Friday, airing at 3:30 p.m. ET on ABC. Georgia Tech-Georgia also moves to Black Friday, airing in primetime on ABC. Disney will also air seven conference championship games, including the SEC Championship (December 7, 4 p.m. ET), ACC Championship (December 7, time still TBA) and the Big 12 Championship (December 7, time still TBA).

There is not much to say about ACC Network’s schedule, which has been announced in full through September 14 and has just three games assigned after that date. One of those three is a classic ACC clash between Cal and Wake Forest at 8 p.m. on Friday, November 8.

SEC Network’s schedule follows a similar model, with games announced through September 14. Notably, SEC Network is tweaking the start time of its games this season, with Saturday games now starting at 12:45 p.m. ET, 4:15 p.m. ET, and 7:45 p.m. ET.

Shifting to Fox, the company announced its schedule for the first three weeks on Fox, FS1, and the Big Ten Network. In addition to its previously announced schedule of Friday night games, Fox airs a doubleheader on August 31 and tripleheaders on both September 7 and 14. The August 31 doubleheader features Penn State-West Virginia at noon ET and UTEP-Nebraska at 3:30 p.m. ET. The September 7 tripleheader begins with Texas-Michigan at noon ET, continues with Baylor-Utah at 3:30 p.m. ET, and ends in late night with Texas Tech-Washington State at 10 p.m. ET. A more traditional tripleheader airs on September 14, with Alabama-Wisconsin at noon ET, the Oregon-Oregon State rivalry game at 3:30 p.m. ET, and UCF-TCU at 7:30 p.m. ET.

On Black Friday, Fox will air Oregon State-Boise State at noon ET and Utah-UCF at 8 p.m. ET. The network (unsurprisingly) airs Michigan-Ohio State at noon ET on Saturday, November 30, and its season concludes with the Mountain West title game in primetime on Friday, December 6.

Ending with NBC, the network has Notre Dame’s seven home games (one of which is a Peaco*ck-exclusive) and weekly primetime Big Ten games. Week 1 features just one game, Fresno State-Michigan at 7:30 p.m. ET on August 31. Week 2 features a quadruple header, bookended by a pair of Peaco*ck exclusives. Rhode Island-Minnesota at noon ET and Boise State-Oregon at 10 p.m. ET are the Peaco*ck games, while Northern Illinois-Notre Dame at 3:30 p.m. ET and Colorado-Nebraska at 7:30 p.m. ET will air on NBC. In Week 3, NBC has three more games, including two more Peaco*ck exclusives. Indiana-UCLA airs on NBC at 7:30 p.m. ET, while Central Michigan-Illinois at noon ET and the Washington State-Washington Apple Cup at 3:30 p.m. ET will both air on Peaco*ck.

The Notre Dame Peaco*ck-exclusive game is the Louisville game on September 28, starting at 3:30 p.m. ET. NBC will also air Nebraska-Iowa on Black Friday in primetime. All games airing on NBC can also be streamed on Peaco*ck.
